Sugar Rush Card Kits from Studio Calico Reveal

Welcome to reveal night with Studio Calico. I was excited to see what Studio Calico cooked up for this month's Card Kit, and wasn't disappointed! Both the main kit, Sugar Rush and the add on, Taffy are full of beautifully patterned paper, dainty little stamp sets and fun sentiments.
For my first card, I used the Sugar Rush kit. I created a card base from pink cardstock included in the kit, and added a block of white cardstock from the More White cardstock set. A little strip of patterned paper from the Sugar Rush kit is notched at the end, and I wrapped some twine around it, with a little piece dangling off the paper strip.
I used the kite stamp images to create a diamond background on the white cardstock base. I then masked portions of the sentiment stamp with washi tape to create a multi-colored sentiment. All you do is mask the portion you don't want ink on with washi, ink the stamp, remove washi tape and stamp on the card. Finally, I added the glittered crown die cut to dangly twine, and punched circles and some diamonds from the negative of the glittered crown die cut.
This card also features product from the Sugar Rush kit. First, I created a card base from the More Colors cardstock set and added strips of patterned paper to both the top and bottom edges. I wrapped  decorative ribbon around the card at diagonals.
A heart is machine-stiched on a patterned paper block, and a little border is created from punched patterned paper hearts. An epoxy heart adds some dimension atop a bit of bakers twine and a heart pin.

The Taffy add-on kit is nothing short of fantabulous. For this card I covered a white card base with patterned paper from the add-on kit. I then die cut the digital "love" image from gray cardstock and  backed it with some foiled vellum, so the patterned paper base shows through. I embossed the bottom edge with a polka dot border and added a notched foil vellum strip to a strip of patterned paper to "ground" the die cut love sentiment. A little bit of patterned paper peaks through the cardstock at the bottom of the card.
I die cut a star from vellum and added some rolled twine and attached the twine with a simple staple. The gold stickers finish off the sentiment!
For my final card I wanted to combine this month's digital files with the Taffy card kit add-on. I created a white card base and then added patterned paper from the Taffy card kit add-on. I wrapped some pink ribbon around the center.
I used brushes like the kites, confetti and circles plus digital files like the sentiment to create a design in photoshop for the card. After, I printed it on white cardstock and adhered it to the card base. Some stitched punched velum hearts add a little dimension.

Kits go live at noon (EST), but if you're not a current subscriber you'll be able to purchase Sugar Rush and the add on, Taffy at midnight (EST) tonight!

Creative Use for Die Cuts: Making Banners

Studio Calico has some amazing goodies in the shop this month! Not only are there pretty kits and add on's to order, but my friend dear Julie Campbell has just designed a new die for Project Life crafters. However, I am here today to show you how to use the die for card-making, particularly to create a fun little banner!
First, I backed a white card base with patterned paper and then die cut the Arrows Cardmaker die from pink cardstock.
I pulled out a couple arrows and threaded a mini paper banner through the arrow die cut openings and tied a knot to hold it in place. The banner was embellished with a heart badge and puffy heart stickers. I then added a punched vellum strip to the bottom with some faux washi tape patterned paper at the top!

This die is super duper CUTE!!! I hope you add it to shopping cart because I know its going to sell super fast!

CHA Winter 2014 Virtual Crop!

Hey lovely friends. This is the weekend that the annual Craft and Hobby Show takes place. Usually, I am there with friends surveying new products, chatting with companies and having a blast, but since little Twig is making her arrival in March, I am too exhausted to roam the floor, so I am watching from a distance, which makes me kind of sad, since I always have a blast meeting up with crafting friends for a girl's weekend devoted to the love of paper-crafting.

However, this year is fun because I am doing something new to celebrate CHA, as well as my love of paper crafting. Studio Calico is hosting a virtual blog hop to showcase it's newest team members, and I am playing along in the hop. For my challenge, I created a card based on this lovely sketch from a card created by my talented creative team buddy, Chari Moss. Sketches are wonderful because they provide enough enough information to jump start your creative mojo, while allowing your creative style to shine through.

For my interpretation on Chari's card, I flipped the orientation of my card and covered the base with cork paper from the Valley High card kit. I then cut strips of patterned paper from the Valley High card kit and this month's card add on, Spaulding Bowl and adhered them to the card base. I twisted and knotted some trim and stapled it to the bottom of the card base, and layered a sentiment sticker and always die cut over the ribbon trim. The sentiment reads, "You mean the world to me…always."

For some finishing touches, I added an enamel dot and stapled sequin to the card base, and adhered an inked chipboard heart that I inked over some knotted thread and placed on a miniature doily die cut.

Thank you so much for taking the time to join me on this fun little virtual hop. I'd love to see more of you--make sure to follow me on Pinterest and Instagram. Make sure to check out Studio Calico's newest lines at their booth--they're soooo beautiful! You'll love them!
