Avocado Arts Meets Chalkboard Art

Hey there friends! I'm here today to share a fun project using newest release, Perfect Blend from Avocado Arts. My card is based on the widely popular chalkboard art that is popping up in home decor and can be searched quite easily on Pinterest. Chalkboard art is the happy blending of typography and graphics, and has been easily adapted to card-making by one of my all-time FAVORITE designers, Betsy Veldman. She created a fun technique that I am going to share with you, but my card will showcase various sets of Avocado Arts stamps.
Chalkboard art is striking and bold! Lots of flourishes, bold typeface and dynamic compositions are characteristic of these fun art works. I especially love the following...

These are so deliciously scrumptious, aren't they? To make one myself would take the better part of a month! Heeheehee...luckily, you can make this fabulous look with far less effort. Betsy Veldman offers step-by-step instructions in this post (with some lovely projects), but I'll also share my how-to's for this fun card that showcases Avocado Arts' newest release Perfect Blend.
I got the idea of a chaIk board card from the chalk board signs at Starbucks, advertising their current specials. Since this set focuses on tea and coffee, the signs totally inspired my approach. I usually add embellishments to my cards, but this card was so bold that I didn't want any embellishments taking away from the fabulousness of this card.

This card used a lot of different sets from Avocado Arts. The main coffee cups, xoxoxo border and sentiment are from Perfect Blend. I used the hearts, heart and arrow and shooting arrow from Sweet Treats Sweetie, a tag, zig zag trim and scalloped trim from Bold Celebrations, the crossed square from the Grateful Season set and another tag from Gobble till you Wobble set.

This technique is very easy to re-create. All you need is cardstock, watermark ink, white embossing powder, white pigment ink and Avocado Arts stamps!

I trimmed the cardstock to 4.25" x 5.5" and stamped the coffee cups with watermark ink. Then I added embossing powder to each stamped image before the ink dried.

The coffee cup has a little opening so you can personalize the cups! I stamped a heart and heart with an arrow.

Add a sentiment from the Perfect Blend set.

Add another sentiment and a heart from Sweet Treats Sweetie

Add some tags with hearts, a playful xoxoxo border from Perfect Blend and a scalloped trim from the Bold Celebrations set.

Heat set with your embossing gun once you've got the design just the way you like.
Then re-stamp the images with pigment ink slightly off the original image to give it some dimension.

Chalkboard art includes lots of banners, swirls, flourishes and lines.
To best re-create the design in your card, use colored pencil to add lines and flourishes in your card.

Use a towel or sponge to gently apply white pigment ink to areas of the card where text and lines are to give it that "chalky" feel.
I also added some lines and color with a pink colored pencil to give the card a little pizazz.

Seriously, love love loving this technique! I hope that you're inspired to try this out for yourself. Thanks again Betsy for you sheer creative genius!

Well, that's it for me today! Make sure to visit the rest of today's crew to see the fabulousness that they've come up with!

  3. I saw the Perfect Blend stamp set on the Season of Givig blog hop and just had to order it. I cannot wait for it to get here because my best friend's birthday is soon and since she is a coffee lover I am going to use this set to make her a card, gift bag and wallet (maybe even a key chain of a coffee cup!). I love the chalkboard art you did!!! Have a great day and happy stamping!
